Description
Made from Corn Starch straw, it is 100% biodegradable, which means they don’t stay in landfills and pollute our land or ocean. Their function is similar to the plastic straws we all take for granted, but without toxins and destructive footprints on Earth. Unlike plastic straw that is not degradable, wheat straw is made from renewable resources, and most importantly it is never wet. PLA straws are natural and can be thrown into compost after use. They can be composted in backyard or municipal composting facilities.
Bioplastic
PLA aka Bioplastic is a very unique material since it is made from corn and not from petroleum. Regular plastics is made from petroleum while PLA is made from corn-based resins which makes PLA non-toxic and annually renewable resources
Compostable
PLA breaks down into its constituent parts (carbon dioxide and water) within three months in a “controlled composting environment,” that is, an industrial composting facility heated to 60degrees Celsius and fed a steady diet of digestive microbes.
Biodegradable
Polylactide is biodegradable, as it decays as a result of exposure to the ultraviolet rays of sunlight and oxygen. It decomposes forming carbon dioxide and water, which present no danger to the environment.
Carbon-neutral
PLA is technical “carbon neutral” in that it comes from renewable, carbon-absorbing plants—as yet another way to reduce our emissions of greenhouse gases in a quickly warming world. PLA also will not emit toxic fumes when incinerated.
